On the way to visit our center and churches in Chukudum, we traveled through the Eastern Equatoria state capital of Torit. There were many many street boys there being treated worse than animals.
Michele got up from dinner with the team and went and bought out the restaurant of bread and began handing out bread and sitting with the boys listening to their stories. One of our favorite things here is seeing hungry people eat! On the return trip an outreach was organized in conjunction with some local church leaders that are our friends. Their hearts too were captured by the vast need.
Iris then began monthly support of a feeding and street church with the children our friends ran through their church until the time all the street boys were sent back to their tribal homelands around referendum in January 2011. We hope to restart this ministry soon, if any have found their way back to the streets in Torit and are praying about finding more permanent solutions for them.
